Today in History 2030 – July 7

1991 Tim Horton’s sold to Wendy’s in a deal transferring massive stock blocs to Tim Horton’s shareholders. As a result, co-founder Ron Joyce becomes Wendy’s largest shareholder.

1993 Publication ban imposed in the Karla Homolka trial. Media corporations appeal immediately (they will lose). Homolka and Paul Bernardo will become some of the most well-known Canadians, but unfortunately useless for sponsorship purposes.

1994 PR nightmare for the Montreal police force: an inquiry finds the force to suffer from defective supervision, rampant racism and incompetence. Montrealers can only say “We told you so.”

2013 Wendy’s bought outright by a consortium of Alberta oil companies looking to diversify their investments. Negotiations with McDonald’s begin immediately.

2030 McDonald’s introduces the BeaverBurger (with maple sauce on the side) at all of its 80,000 restaurants.
