Today in History 2030 – July 10

1920  Referendum on prohibition (of alcohol) in New Brunswick. The province goes dry.

1946  First drive-in movie theaters open, in Hamilton.

1985  Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior sunk by French Special Forces while at anchorage in Aukland, New Zealand. One crewmember killed. The New Zealand police arrest the two commandos responsible.

2019  Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise sunk by a Canadian Navy frigate in the arctic. The ship was on a campaign to stop the construction of the Frobisher Bay-Churchill undersea pipeline, making deep arctic oil drilling commercially viable.

2030  Greenpeace frogmen sink mega-tanker Exxon Renewal on its way to the new deep-water oil field off Brazil.
