Leaders Debate: good news, May is out

It’s Day 2 of the federal election campaign and the television networks (referring to themselves as “the Consortium” – could they choose a more evil-sounding name?) announced one good piece of news:

The Green Party won’t be in the debate. Not because having four leaders already snuffs out most of the drama and repartee from the event (why not having five leaders is good news), but because three of the other four parties don’t want them. I presume dissenting voice is the Bloc, because May would probably be a non-factor in French anyway.

Not that I don’t like the Greens – their relativepopularity makes the election math even more complex. But a debate should be a debate, not a townhall meeting.
